“By the Book” - Linda Hersey Voices in the Fire is a compelling new novel from author C.J. Masson. She cites her “ignorance of black Loyalists” as her inspiration for this book, and indeed Voices in the Fire has been meticulously researched to provide a novel rich in historical detail. A natural storyteller, Masson covers a period of migration, breathing life into those who have gone before - a brilliant step back to solve a modern mystery. Review by Joanna Manning Read Voices in the Fire for a good historical mystery, to better understand a lesser-known period in Canada’s multi-cultural, multi-ethnic history, to realise we still have a longer journey to travel than the Loyalists had to make. Told vividly, with with a true eye for the period and respect and admiration for the courage and resilience of the characters, the book is as much about this county’s ancestors as it is about human relations, tolerance, acceptance and endurance. “Writer’s Block” - Robert Gold C.J. Masson’s “Voices in the Fire”, simply stated, is a first-rate novel that tells a captivating and touching story. It actually tells two stories, 200 years apart....Although an entertaining novel, “Voices in the Fire” is also an important work of literature. Replete with historical themes and social insights, C.J. Masson’s book deserves wide spread recognition. |
